Hi,
Beginning with the first of Elul (this coming Monday morning), Ashkenazi Jews blow Shofar after Shacharit (the morning prayers).
There is also a practice of saying ten chapters of Psalms each weekday during the month of Elul, completing the book of Psalms twice during the month.
(Code of Jewish Law Orach Chaim 581:1; Mishneh Berurah 581:3)
Have a great day,
Mordechai

This question is sort of related. I'm trying to find some sort of offical documentation of what makes a kosher shofar. I know that it must be of a kosher animal that isn't a cow, but does that animal have to be killed in a kosher manner? (aka. under Rabbinic supervision?)
ReplyDeleteIf so - who is eating all of those kosher kudu?
I'm asking this because I want to make my own shofar from a Texas Dall Ram and I want to buy the horn on ebay.
Many thanks!
Hi Julie,
ReplyDeleteGood question - and the answer is that it need not be schechted. See Mishneh Berurah 586:8.
