Multiple Kiddushes?

Hi,

Eating a small meal with kiddush fulfills one's obligation.

Therefore, if a person recites Kiddush, eats some food and then chooses to eat another meal in another room or another house, he does not recite Kiddush again. (One may recite the daytime Kiddush at as many meals as one wishes, but the nighttime Kiddush should not be repeated.)

(Code of Jewish Law Orach Chaim 273:2; Mishneh Berurah 273:9-10)

Have a great day,
Mordechai

  1. Good evening,

This is often confusing. Scenario: kiddush at shul. Then we get home. Make kiddush again? What if everyone at your meal already heard kiddush somewhere else (like shul)? Preferable to say again? Just ok to say again? If I was the one to make Kiddush for the tzibur, when I get home would it be better to have someone else make kiddush? (for all of these, I'm referring to Shabbos day kiddush)

  2. Hi Michael,
Thanks for commenting. If you heard kiddush and ate at shul, your kiddush obligation is over; whether you were the one to make kiddush for the tzibbur or not, the rule is the same. You may make kiddush again at home, if you choose, but it is not required. It might be considered "preferable" in the sense that it gives greater honor to the meal.
    Hope this helps.

  3. Hello,

That helps. If I want to kiddush to be made at home as well, is there any reason or circumstance why I should should not be the one to make that kiddush?
